Colouring book ideas

For the one who just became the big sibling

New babies arrive with a lot of attention attached. A book made entirely of the older child, their face, their toys, their life before all this, is a quiet way of saying they have not been replaced.

New baby & sibling gifts

Choosing photos of the older one

1

Make it about them, not the baby

The temptation is to fill it with newborn photos. Resist it. A book of the older child doing older-child things is the entire point, and they will notice the difference.

2

Include the people they are missing

Grandparents, the childcare educator, the friend down the road. New-baby weeks disrupt routines, and familiar faces on the page help.

3

Pick photos from before the bump

Photos from six or twelve months back tend to land better than recent ones, because they are from the period the child remembers as normal.

A photo on the left page and the same moment as a colouring page on the right.

Every spread pairs the original photo with its colouring page, so the memory and the drawing sit side by side.

How it works

  1. Pick your photos. Six to eighteen, straight from your phone.
  2. Choose a cover and title. The cover stays in full colour.
  3. Pick the detail level. Simple and bold for little hands, or intricate for older colourists.
  4. We print and post it. Or email you a print-ready PDF, if you would rather print it yourself.

Questions

What age is this suitable for?

Most big siblings are two to seven. Choose the simplest line-art level for under-fives, with big open shapes they can actually colour inside.

Can I include the new baby at all?

Of course. A page or two at the end works well, as an arrival rather than the subject.

What do you do with photos of my children?

They make the book and then they go. Deleted at ship, never sold, never shared, never used for anything else.
